645 Cameras

The frame dimension for these cameras is 6 x 4.5 cm, making it the smallest medium format dimension. In Japan the 645 is normally referred to as “semi-format”, implying that it is “almost” medium format. The dimensions are similar to regular 35mm or digital camera photos. The great thing about these cameras is their portability, while providing a negative (or positive) that is much larger than 35mm.  One unique characteristic is that the film is loaded vertically in the film back rather than horizontally. This is because the width of the film strip is 6cm, and that is the long edge for this format. I currently have four 645 cameras, having traded in the Pentax 645 for the Pentax 645N.
