It is still hard for many people to believe that Minolta is no longer in the camera business. With roots going back to 1929, Minolta was one of the biggest names in photography for years. In the mid-1980s they were the leading manufacturer of 35mm cameras and lenses, and completely took the market by storm in 1985 with the release of the 7000, the world’s first widely marketed auto-focus SLR. Fortunately Sony picked up the rights to Minolta’s alpha mount and so older Minolta lenses are still compatible. To learn more about the long Minolta story, read this.
I am more heavily invested in Minolta than any other brand because my digital SLR is a Sony, and all three kids have Minolta digital SLR cameras. I have also accumulated four Minolta film cameras and recently sold two others, the 707si and 807si.
